Neys

The ney is an ancient instrument---players are depicted on the walls of 5000-year-old Egyptian tombs. The ney is traditionally made of Mediterranean cane (arundo donax), and is historically associated with Sufi devotional music. It was a favorite of Rumi. However, its use has extended into classical music and is even used in pop and fusion music because of its unique sound. It is played throughout the Middle East.
